The Astral Plane

The Astral plane follows directly after the Red fields in a typical playthrough of asses.masses. It's an area with various minigames and activities including Donkey races and even a concert. The desert aesthetic and layout, together with a heightmap were established at the time I started on the project. After trying to use my procedural cliff tool just on the mountains (as I did in the red fields) I came to the conclusion that matching up the heightmap and procedural cliff meshes just created too many problems. So I decided to go all in on the cliff tool and use it to entirely replace the heightmap terrain. As the terrain had to include overhangs, caves and tunnels this worked out really well, allowing us to have such features without any seams to a heightmap terrain
