The Red Fields was the first area I worked on for asses.masses. It already had a good layout of hills around the edges, red flowers and a pathway down the middle to lead the player. My initial focus was on creating much more detailed hills with cliffs and overhangs instead of the existing heightmap terrain. After that procedurally placed path stones, bushes and rocks together with water and an entrance tunnel completed the area. To help convey the feeling of afterlife that this section respresents in the fiction of the project, I used a slight depth of field to add softness in the distance together with vibrant red and gold colours. The whole area took about a week with a few days later on tuning the lighting and shaders.
